Net Neutrality - talk about back and forth

Every time I read a new article about net neutrality, I think hmmm good point! I am sticking with the fact that we need some type of regulation, but not so restrictive in nature that innovation or further investments are at risk. I really think the broadband companies will do what many say about restricting access/speed to people based on what companies they have stake in. This one article talks about the FCC and past precedence and how can we trust them (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/rick-carnes/net-neutrality--can-we-tr_b_609392.html), I agree with the commenter at the bottom who can you trust - but certainly not the broadband companies!

Google Background

I had at least two RSS feeds about the Google background changing to be like Bing. One is a poll of other crazy ideas they could try, I like the one about searching with time parameters! I love the Google background I found, something about a sunny day. During the day the sun and blue sky are out and at night it changes to a dark background with stars! I don't care for Bing's search results I never have any luck!

Better ideas to replace suspension or Sat. detention?

This article caught my eye on my Enterprise RSS feed. It is mostly about Middleboro teachers getting laid off, which unfortuneately is everywhere and was almost me until they decided not to cut so much! However it was the last paragraph that caught my eye. We need something better at EBHS. We have suspension, aka a day off, or a Saturday detention where they sit and be miserable. You know what happens if they don't come to Saturday detention - they get a suspension!! I like this in school idea, but I can here admins now saying they have no money for someone to run it. Does anyone have ideas from their schools that work??

In other business, the School Committee was told the “Saturday school” at the high school is being phased out and by fall will be replaced with an “alternative classroom environment.”

Vice Principal Paul Branagan said rather than punish students with detention on Saturday, an in-school program has been piloted, modeled after a successful program in place at Silver Lake Regional High School.

Branagan said students get three warnings then they are pulled out of class and separated for a daylong session in the alternative classroom. Branagan said the classroom will be limited to five to seven students with one teacher and will focus on academics.

Net Neutrality - Groups without politics

So it sounds like a reaction that was inevitable based on the recent Congress hearings. At&t, Verizon, Comcast, Google, and Microsoft have decided to form a technical advisory group called the Broadband Internet Advisory Group - headed interestingly by a former technologist at the FCC. Trying to follow Net Neutrality honestly gives me a headache! Anytime politics is involved it seems to overcomplicate matters. I still think we need regulations that will protect all of us from future overcharges.
